EDNER & DOMINIQUE JEANTY ~ Haiti
Faith Promise Missionaries serving with
Crossworld
The Jeantys’ ministry
focus is leadership training. Edner has been a professor at STEP Seminary since
1989, teaching Christian Education and Bible courses. The vision of STEP
Seminary is to train Haitian leaders who will become disciples who glorify God
by transforming their communities. Pastor Jeanty is Treasurer for the Union of
Evangelical Baptists in Haiti, which is the national church that partners with
Crossworld. Edner is the pastor of Berea Baptist Church. The Jeantys founded the Barnabas
Center which provides resources and training for pastoral leaders in their
denomination or in Christian organizations. The Barnabas Center also runs an
outreach to women in prison and participates in evangelistic events to present
the Gospel to the business and professional leadership in the capital city.
Dominique launched Karibuni Guest House which serves travelers going though
Port-au-Prince on ministry and personal business.
Thus far this year,
Haiti has been hit hard by earthquakes, volatility, kidnappings, and fuel
and food shortages. Earlier this year, the Jeantys shared the following:
· Loving greetings from Haiti. We have been
kept safe even though the security situation in our area is very
volatile. In the last couple weeks, at least four pastors have been
kidnapped among hundreds of fellow citizens. Travel by road to the south
is a very high risk, so those who can afford it travel by air. But we
continue to look to the Lord, and we continue to work.
·
We have been talking with the southern district
of an evangelical church that has 16 local churches, and many of them were
badly hit by the earthquake. The leader of the district is a former
student of mine at STEP Seminary. Through that church 32 entrepreneurs
registered in the Biblical Entrepreneurship course that we provided in
partnership with the Nehemiah Project. Through a generous gift, we were
able to assist with scholarships for 20 of the attendees.
· With the humanitarian gift sent earlier, we are
supporting the reconstruction of a damaged school in a remote area and the
training of small business owners in about 15 churches in areas in the south
that were hit by the earthquake. I want once again to thank FBA for the
generous gift to provide humanitarian help to the South that was hit with an
earthquake.
Because of the current crises after the disaster my team
thought it would be difficult to attract people to the Global Leadership Summit
(GLS) in Les Cayes, but we wanted to do it anyway as an inspiration and
encouragement for leaders. Thanks to the fund from FBA, we provided
scholarships for 20 pastors who were affected by the earthquake. But God
also worked in bringing many others to the Summit and we had a full house at
the large classroom we rented at the American University. One pastor
testified that he was going through a difficult time in his ministry, and he
was considering quitting. But from what he heard and learned at the
Summit, he feels renewed in strength and encouraged in his soul to go forward
with joy. Many are already planning to be at the next one. Andy Stanley
will be one of the speakers at the next Global Leadership Summit.
- Our church continues to livestream our worship service
online and we have our Bible study on social media. Ten times more people are reached for the
Bible study.
- The Barnabas
Center, under the leadership of Edner, has launched a new division to train
businesspeople in the church in Biblical Entrepreneurship.
- Our family works
mostly from home because of the insecurity (gang fighting, kidnapping,
roadblocks) in the city of Port-au-Prince.
We are also limited in our movements because of a severe shortage of
fuel. Several international
organizations like World Vision, World Bank, and MAF have asked the expatriates
to evacuate.
Note: The Caribbean is the second most disaster-
prone region in the
world, regularly hit by natural
and human-induced hazards. Its Small Islands
Developing States are increasingly vulnerable to
extreme climatic events, which are becoming more
intense, unpredictable, and frequent due to climate
change.
In 2021, the region faced four major humanitarian challenges at once: (i) Covid-19, (ii) mixed migrations (Haiti, Cuba and the Venezuelan forced
migration and refugee crisis), (iii) the Atlantic hurricane season, and (iv) a
wide range of natural hazards (a volcanic eruption, floods and recurrent
droughts in Cuba and the Dominican Republic).
- How many quakes in Haiti today, August 3?
In the past 24 hours, Haiti had 8 quakes up to
magnitude 3.3.
- What was the strongest quake in Haiti today, August 3?
The strongest earthquake in Haiti today occurred
8 hours ago: Light mag. 3.3
earthquake North Atlantic Ocean, 18 km northwest
of San Fernando de Monte
Cristi, Dominican Republic, on Wednesday, Aug 3, 2022,
at 2:00 am (GMT -4).

On 24 April 2022, clashes resurged between rival gangs in the
communes of Croix-des Bouquets, Tabarre and Cité Soleil in the Port-au-Prince
metropolitan area. Over the course of several days, the
fighting gradually spread across other communes of the capital, involving more
and more allies of the different gangs. Over 200 people were killed, and
hundreds wounded, but the real figures are likely to be significantly higher.
According to IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM), some 17,000 people have
been forced to leave their homes and seek shelter in spontaneous sites or with
host families in the capital or in the provinces.
Thank you for your faithful prayers and support for the Jeantys and all of our FBA Faith Promise Missionaries!

PRAYER & PRAISE ~ August 3-9,
2022
8/3 Mervat Nuwayhid
Pioneers,
Inc., USA
Pray
she will be ready and prepared to welcome new students in August. Pray the Lord
will send her more helpers, especially an older man and ideally his wife (a
“father figure”). Pray for someone who drives stick-shift to drive her truck to
deliver bedding, furniture, etc. to some of the new college students.
8/4 Tim & Kathy Cummins
Whirlwind
Missions, Inc., USA
Pray
for the teams helping Whirlwind Missions this summer. One of Tim’s favorite
teams over the years has been Deep Springs Baptist Church. They've
consistently brought teams back to the International Village to reach the
community for Jesus. In a unique area with over 145 different people groups and
761 different languages, the world has come to them!
8/5 Paul & Karan Davis
TEAM,
France
Pray
for missionaries in France. Just under one percent of the population of France
is Christian. The culture of relationships in France is quite different than in
the US. Pray that the apathy of the people will be overcome by the presence of
the Holy Spirit, the perseverance of the missionaries, and the patience in
relationship building.
8/6
GREG & PAM SMITH
InStep
International, Inc., USA/Worldwide
Pray
for the 1st Annual Father / Son Adventure Mission Project to Port
Alsworth, Alaska with InStep partner Kemp Laidley, during August 6-11.
8/7 Andrew & Alecia Teeuwen
Pioneers,
Inc., Greece
Pray
for wisdom as they make plans for a
regional conference in the Spring of 2023. Pray for the Lord to raise up
laborers with Pioneers for the harvest in His time for Spain and Portugal. Pray
for their monthly Area and Regional Leaders virtual meeting and that they
discern the Lord’s leading.
8/8 Beverly Minor
Central
Missionary Clearinghouse, Austria
By
the grace of God, their church continues to take a weekly supply of food and
other relief supplies over to Ukraine. (Note: The FBA Global Missions group enjoyed hosting Beverly for lunch on Monday, Aug. 1. It was wonderful to learn the latest on her ministry and have prayer together.)
8/9
DOUG & LISA MITTS
Greater
Europe Mission, Poland/Europe
Pray
that God would grant Doug wisdom as he continues to supervise spiritual
directors in training with Selah-Europe. Challenges with accommodation is a
huge problem; there are more than two million Ukrainians in Poland now. Cars
and equipment are sent with medical supplies and other materials. Praise God
for the European network. The challenges are huge, but the Holy Spirit is
strengthening and supporting people through it all. Pray for fruit from the
evangelistic outreaches.
“Therefore, my
beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the
Lord, knowing that your toil is not in
vain in the Lord.” I Corinthians 15:58 (NASB)
