RICK & ELISABETH ~

Faith Promise Missionaries in West Africa

Rick and Elisabeth are church-planters among an unreached, least-accessible minority people group in West Africa where there is still no church and no Bible in their language. They minister in the area using outreach programs such as sports, literature, and educational resources for preschool and elementary-aged children. They partner with short-term teams who help with medical resources, basketball camps and building a sports court. Through these ministries, doors have opened  for Bible stories and studies. A few of the local men have chosen to follow Jesus and continue to grow in their faith journey. It is a ministry on the extreme edge and they count every person on the team as strategic and valuable in reaching this people group.

Many years ago Rick had the vision to set up a multi-purpose court where they serve, so the youth would have something to do in the afternoons. This town in West Africa is in the middle of nowhere on the way to nowhere so there are not many resources or options available for the youth. Many people prayed and gave to make it possible, and some even came in person.

A wonderful church in Callahan, FL got behind that vision and sent out a mighty short-term team who did the massive job of preparing, measuring, setting up, and pouring the slab for the court. Another amazing church in Sarasota, FL sent out a mighty short-term team who did the incredible job of setting up the court with backboards, nets, painting the court, and all the lines needed for the sports played on the court. Both churches have returned several times to put on sports camps for the youth as well as do maintenance on the court -- all in extremely hot and humid weather. All the teams have come with beautiful smiles and servant hearts - everyone remembers them and all the convos they had together.

The kids love the SportPlex, as we call it, and use it every afternoon. Across the street from the SportPlex is an elementary school, and the school uses it for its PE Classes and Group meetings.

Usually, Rick has a soccer team called the A.F. Rhinos, and they play a season and end with a tournament, but twice now the government has taken back the land (for building schools - excellent reason) where soccer fields have been laboriously prepared due to the rainy season, cows treading across, and the hot, dry weather. This year no land was available for a soccer season so Rick had the vision of doing a 5x5 Futsal Tournament in the SportPlex.

 Futsal Tournament in the SportPlex

Praise God for the good reports of appreciation and impact of the soccer tournament. The moms of the B:13 team thanked Rick so much for giving their children something to do for a whole month so they wouldn’t be getting into trouble. One of the fathers called to also thank Rick. The women said that everyone is hearing about the tournament and especially the celebration and everything that took place. Thank you for partnering to share Jesus there.
