MARK & JANA FAUS ~
Faith Promise Missionaries serving with SIM, USA/Worldwide

In April 2022, Mark took on a new position in SIM International as the International Governance Director. In this role, he oversees, supports and mentors the boards in each of the 70 countries globally where SIM serves, as well as give assistance to the local church denomination boards that connects/partneres locally to each country's ministries. Going forward, due to the continuing crucial needs of SIM's health ministries, he will continue to partially retain some of his responsibilties as the Operations Director for SIM's global health ministries. He holds a Masters Level degree in Governance to earn the Chartered Director designation.

Jana is the Communications Director for the SIM International Health Ministry Team, and has been involved in a regular communication schedule with the expatriate SIM missionaries during the pandemic. She has developed and driven online, group Zoom calls amongst all medical missionary staff, enabling teaching and support topics, to equip and support the missionary staff during the pandemic. In addition to these responsibilities, she also home-schooled their son Carter throughout his academic years, and he recently graduated from high school.

As advised, they are based in the USA on the SIM International Health Ministry Team. Their team is a virtual team, located geographically throughout the USA, but meeting together online each week. They travel to the various overseas health ministry locations regularly or as required. At the first signs of the outbreak of COVID, Mark was immediately assigned as Project Manager for two SIM International COVID Projects. The first project is aimed to provide much needed financial assistance to all of SIM’s globally-located health ministries around the world. Mark stayed in contact with 28 different mission hospitals in 25 countries during the year 2021 of COVID, providing much needed funding and counsel during the pandemic. Secondly, Mark is the Program Manager for SIM’s Task Force Relief Project, which provides funding for those ministries (beyond medical ministries) around the world that have suffered severe economic impact due to the COVID crisis. Mark has disbursed funds to ministries in 30 different countries. Combined, Mark has disbursed more than $1.2 million in funding between these two projects. Pray for Mark as he guides the development of a new European SIM board that will serve as an entity to enable mission personnel and funding to be sent to central-Asia mission fields.

What Does Governance Have to Do With Ministry Anyway?

As the International Governance Consultant for the mission's global ministries, Mark feels it is a blessing to serve the global network of SIM ministries in this way. Many have questioned the connection and use of corporate governance systems in international ministries.

How SIM's Organizational Structure Works Overseas

SIM has workers in 95 countries and formal ministry programs in 75 countries. With tightening global regulations that require local autonomy, these 75 overseas ministry programs have registered to become a SIM affiliation with their host government. Most commonly, they register as a non-profit organization or religious entity. This legal registration then authorizes the SIM ministry to perform the vital functions necessary to conduct ministry in that country, such as obtaining visas for incoming missionaries, receiving overseas ministry funds, and purchasing property for mission buildings and houses. Further, in compliance with a local government's legal requirements, each SIM ministry has established a board of directors to provide the necessary oversight, accountability, and counsel to the organization.

How is Mark's New Role Connected to These Overseas Boards?

In my new role, I (Mark) am tasked to provide oversight and assistance to SIM overseas ministry boards to ensure their good function and to aid their ministry effectiveness. This assistance involves teaching good governance practices such as effective strategic planning, risk management, accountability, and good oversight over the organization. SIM's global network of 70+ boards is an immense ministry scope with continual training and consultation needs!. During the last three months, my efforts have been focused on the boards with the most urgent and pressing governance needs. I have been advising a few established SIM boards in South America and Southern Africa as well as guiding the development of two new boards, one for the SIM Liberia ELWA Hospital and the other at a new SIM-affiliated ministry in the Czech Republic.

Health Ministry Team Activities

Jana continues to serve with the SIM Health Ministries Team in the role of communications. She is involved in several major ministry projects at the moment. Primarily, she is arranging the details for a joint-mission Medical Healthcare Conference to be held in Nairobi, Kenya in October for the global team of medical missionaries from SIM and the AIM mission. She is also focused on developing and publishing the next edition of the Health Ministries Team newsletter which is distributed to SIM's global network of on-field medical missionaries. Locally, Jana has also recently recommitted to another year of teaching her Pre-K Lifegroup at our local church in Jacksonville.

PRAYER & PRAISE ~ August 10-16, 2022

8/10 SERGIO & LINDA MIJANGOS
Avant Ministries, Guatemala
Linda had a PET Scan which showed improvement but not as much as expected. The doctor wants to continue treatments for eight weeks or as long as Linda can handle the side effects. They are also doing tests for trial treatments. Please pray for her relief from pain and financial provision.

8/11 J & P
Central Africa
Pray for J & P’s safe travels as they come to the States in August for a nine-month home assignment. Pray they can organize everything at the Retreat to continue running smoothly during their absence.

8/12 Josh & Gina Bloomfield
AFC International, Australia
Please pray for John, Sunia, Jone, Rev. Powell and his wife and Josh as they work together to cultivate sixteen existing Wesleyan Fijian churches into witnessing communities. It is a direct answer to prayer that Rev. Powell, the denominational leader, asked them to partner with him in developing all the church leaders he overseas across Fiji.

8/13 Al & Linda Bridges
BEE World, USA/Worldwide
Please pray for the Bridges and their daughter Amy, as her husband (their son-in-law), John Waters, who suffered a stroke on June 28, is now in Heaven. He had been in a coma on life-support in the hospital in Minneapolis since then. Knowing the reality and finality of his passing out of this world into the next has changed the course of Amy’s life forever! And theirs too, as they walk alongside her in the next crucial days and weeks. Your prayers are of great worth and more valuable than precious jewels to them!

8/14 Luc & Suzy Salsac
VIANOVA, Belgium
Pray for a discovery Bible study they hope to begin with one of Suzy’s ex-colleagues. Pray for Luc’s health, as he has been struggling physically with fatigue, possibly due to a liver problem. Vianova organized a truck of supplies for Ukraine and more will be planned. In the meantime, they are looking for gifts to help with gas and food.

8/15 Larry &  Peggy Anderson
Youth Outreach United, USA
Beginning this month, God has allowed the Andersons to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ for sixty years with young people around the world, the USA, and for 24 years here in Atlanta. God has been faithful beyond measure, and they are thankful for FBA’s faithful prayers and financial support.

8/16 Mark & Jana Faus
SIM, USA/Worldwide
Pray for Mark and Jana as they continue to serve on the SIM Health Ministry Team, supporting SIM’s global network of health ministries. Pray for wisdom as they provide counsel to medical professionals seeking guidance to overseas ministry service. Pray that the Lord will provide the remaining financial support required for the Faus’ ministry to erase the monthly support shortfall.

“Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.”
