Our journey to La Campa, Honduras,
began in 2009 when we took our first short-term mission trip as team leaders
from First Baptist Church Atlanta. We had been on three mission trips to two
different countries prior to 2009, but every country is different, so we didn’t
know exactly what to expect. By the end of that first trip, we knew we wanted
to return, but had no idea at that time that we would eventually live here
permanently-until 2012 when things began to become clearer.

Our First Community
Again, we were here with another
mission team, and we each began to sense during that trip that big changes were
coming in our lives. Once we shared with each other what we had experienced, we
began to believe that we were going to be able to spend more time in Honduras.
But even then, we weren’t sure of what exactly that meant. After this, there
were more trips, and the more we explored Honduras, the more we discovered we
really wanted to live here.
In 2013, we purchased a piece of land in La Campa and began
building our home. Moving day finally came in May of 2015. We traveled to
Honduras with our two suitcases and backpacks each. The team we came down with
also checked six trunks of personal belongings for us. With those few possessions,
our pickup and a house not quite completed, we began the adventure in Honduras. The sign

We learned a lot during our first
four years here and through many different circumstances we realized that it
was time for us to establish two new non-profit organizations: Family Health
& Development Foundation Honduras (FHD Honduras), or Fundación Salud Y
Desarollo Familiar Para Honduras and FHD Missions, Inc. FHD Honduras is a legal
non-profit in Honduras and FHD Missions, Inc. is the complementary non-profit
organization in the U.S.
With these new organizations, we’re
able to engage more significantly with the healthcare system in Honduras,
expand educational opportunities, and assist with community development
projects to impact families in western Honduras. We are most excited about our
new project called La Casa de Rubén. Please visit our Facebook page and In Hines Sight to learn more.
