Ross & Roula Georgiou ~
FBA Faith Promise Missionaries serving with
Campus Crusade for Christ, Germany

Sports chaplaincy ministry provides pastoral care for professional, regional, club, and school sports groups. The ministry of a sports chaplain is available to all athletes regardless of their spiritual background. Christ is the center of this ministry and sports chaplains are directing athletes to Him. Ross is responsible for championing sports chaplaincy internationally. He travels throughout Europe and the Middle East teaching others how to grow sports chaplaincy in their city, country or region. New chaplains must complete Ross’ comprehensive four-phase sports chaplaincy training before being placed in local sports communities. Roula assists Ross with the sports chaplaincy ministry. She also teaches part-time at the Black Forest Academy, a school for the children of international Christian workers.

Ross & Roula share that September 11 & 18 are Global Sports Sundays. When the Church learns to embrace the sporting community and can serve them, the love of Christ will be able to impact cultures around the world. Therefore, we are calling up the body of Christ worldwide to join us on Global Sports Sunday to pray for the world of sports.

Recently, at  the 3rd Global Congress on Sport and Christianity (3GCSC) that took place in Cambridge on August 18-21, Ross and two others presented a paper that aims to highlight pathways that can carry the church forward into the mission field of the sporting world. The title is “Sports Chaplaincy – Highways, Roadblocks and Bridges”.

Please continue to pray for everyone who is involved in our Coaching Program. In less than a year GSCA will have up to 12 high-capacity leaders trained as ministry coaches. They are being mentored, coached, and taught by professional Coach Mentors. Ross and Roula are part of this program. They are being mentored by professional Coach Mentors, too. Ross coaches four leaders and Roula coaches two leaders. Pray that they would be able to help other leaders through the art of focused listening, powerful questions, and strategic insights. They are near the end of the first phase of the program and are excited to see how God is working in and through us.

Praise the Lord for the Major Sport Event Leadership meetings in Lausanne. The purpose of these meetings was to pray for God to open the door for ministry at Major Sports Events, more specifically in IOC, and for Him to direct them on how to go about it. This meeting is an answer to their prayers of two years!

Praise God for the Sports Chaplaincy ministries of the UK nations, Ireland, and Australia who have been part of Global Sports Sunday for a while and for the Sports Chaplaincy ministries of Croatia, Netherlands, New Zealand, France, USA, Italy, India, Sri Lanka, Sweden who have joined them to pilot this service for their countries this year.
